I love cakes

I love baking
since I was a little girl and I now I'm having the time of my life giving them life and colour! Art has always fascinated me and I'm finally able to combine these two passions in a very sweet and creative way. I still have a lot to learn and to practise before I can call myself a cake designer. Meanwhile, you can enjoy my sweet adventure and follow it here in this blog, in my Facebook and Instagram pages. It will be a pleasure to get your opinion and comments about the cakes.

Bolo caveiras mexicanas/ Mexican skulls cake
A special request for a special birthday. Mexican skulls and numbers printed on wafer paper, handpmade chalk effect painting.
Baseado num design de/ Based on a design by CJ Sweet Treats.
"A caveira mexicana simboliza a vida e afasta os maus espíritos. (...)
"The idea of this tradition is that the Mexican families choose to celebrate the lives of their dearly departed friends and relatives as an opposite to most cultures that tend to mourn the dead. The roots of Dia de los Muertos could be traced back to the Aztecs and their festival dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl.
In terms of meaning, the skull symbolizes death but in a positive manner. In Mexico it is believed that death is not the final stage in one’s life but rather a step forward into a higher level of conscience.
For the Aztecs skulls were a positive symbol, not only of death but also of rebirth.
Supposedly the symbolism of a sugar skull is rooted in the decoration around the eyes. Flowers are meant to symbolize life, while cob webs symbolize death. Burning candles set inside the eyes are a sign of remembrance. These items can also be used in combination to personalize the main focus of the skull as well."

Bolo Casamento laranja e azul / Orange and blue wedding cake
My first wedding cake had to be special and not conventional at all: orange, the bride's favourite colour, and blue, in a chevron pattern, the groom's. It was also decorated with two orange gerbera daisies on top of the cake. I wish the couple all the hapiness!
